The MPTL has added PCR testing to the lab. The lab currently does PCR testing for Mycoplasma gallisepticum, iowae, meleagridis and synoviae. The St. Paul location no longer conducts these PCR tests and all testing will be sent to the MPTL. In addition Avian pneumovirus (APV) testing will also be done exclusively at the MPTL location.
Beginning Monday July 24, 2017 the MPTL began a daily courier service (M-F) to the UM-VDL in St. Paul. Samples, culture plates and other specimens for testing at the UM-VDL in St. Paul must arrive at the MPTL by 9:00 am for same day delivery. Shipments will arrive at the UM-VDL early afternoon for same day processing. Samples arriving after 9:00 am will be sent the next day, samples/specimens arriving after 9:00 am on Friday will be stored and sent on Monday. This timeline will enable MPTL staff to assign case numbers in the VDL-LIMS before being sent. There will be no cost to poultry producers or veterinarians for this service, please take advantage of it.
