Antimicrobial resistance

Antibiotic resistance imageAntibiotic resistance (AMR) is the ability of bacteria to resist the effects of antibiotics. Infections caused by resistant bacteria can be very difficult to treat. The CVM's Antimicrobial Resistance Stewarship Initiative provides the most updated information regarding AMR activities as well as a wide range of resources to learn more abou AMR and how to responsibly use antibiotics.

Additional resources on this page provide information to help determine patterns of antibiotic use in food producing animals; monitor antibiotic drug susceptibilities in food animals, meat and poultry; and develop mitigations to reduce AMR associated with food producing animals and their production environments.
